During her seven-year tenure as a Teacher for Littleton Public Schools in Colorado, Terrie Spieker utilized her education, training, and personal philosophy to deliver quality instruction to young students. Terrie Spieker attended Metropolitan State College of Denver, where she studied in the Department of Teacher Education, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Science. While completing her undergraduate studies, Terrie Spieker made the President’s Honor Roll three years in a row and graduated cum laude with a 3.95 grade point average. Terrie Spieker continued on at the University of Colorado Denver, enrolling in graduate level courses as part of an advanced degree in the field of language and literacy.
In 1981, Terrie Spieker joined Qwest Communications International, Inc. as a Sales Representative, a position that lasted for 14 years. Terrie Spieker brought her unique set of interpersonal and troubleshooting skills to her job to provide customers with the best possible sales and service experience. In addition to selling phone service and features to customers, Terrie Spieker processed orders, competently navigated Qwest database systems, and helped to create and implement new procedures.
After deciding to pursue a career as an educator, Terrie Spieker joined the community of Littleton Public Schools, where she applied her educational training and beliefs to create a supportive and effective classroom environment for her students. Monitoring student achievement through assessments and other methods allowed Terrie Spieker to provide needs-driven instruction. Terrie Spieker also felt it was important to invite parents to be a part of their children’s learning process, and to this end she communicated often with parents about their children’s progress and needs. Additional workshops on such topics as “Motivating Unmotivated Students” and “Assertiveness” gave Terrie Spieker additional insight into her role as an educator. Terrie Spieker believes in the importance of community service, and in the past she has volunteered at shelters for individuals without homes and provided tutoring for children in disadvantaged communities.
